Taiwan’s Liao Po Hsun in top form, bags Metro Summer Event Day 1A chip lead; Ellezer Castillo wins NLH Turbo

The 2024 Metro Summer Event is well on its way with Day 1A seeing 165 pull up seats for a chance at the record PH₱ 6 Million (~$106,000) guaranteed prize pool. Reigning champion Moses Saquing and 2019 champion Kai Paulsen were among the day’s warriors, as well as decorated Metro winners Maxwell Rosete, Christopher Chua, Joseph Sia, however by the time the bubble burst, they were nowhere to be found. Sitting up top with a mountain of chips was Taiwan’s Liao Po Hsun (pictured below). Liao is no stranger to the Philippine poker scene as most of his live cashes are from the country including his largest live score.

For those that missed the mark or have yet to join the action, there are four entry flights remaining. The next one is Day 1B which kicks off today, Aprill 11 at 2pm. Registration closes at the start of Level 11. From there on, it plays down to the money of 14% of the field. Buy in is PH₱ 11,000 (~$195). Players begin with a 25,000 starting stack which is a very deep 250 times the opening blinds. Blinds increase every 30 minutes then 40 minutes on Day 2 and the Final Day.

If you are just hearing of this event, the MSE is a homegrown Metro Card Club event, now in its seventh year. For this edition, the Metro has upped the prize pool, guaranteeing even more than its current record. That means big money awaits the champion!
