China’s Liu Zhiqiang tops PPT 2024 Day 1B; Marc Rivera, William Ysmael, Lester Edoc advance

Metro Card Club homegrown events always bring out the locals from all over the country. In addition, the events also attract international players with many walking away as champions. One player hoping to make that happen is China’s Liu Zhiqiang who outshined at the Philippine Poker Tournament 2024 – Day 1B stage. Out of the 228-entry field, Zhiqiang emerged as heat leader with 532,000 in chips. This placed him in 3rd rank on the cumulative Day 2 counts.

Also advancing were Metro Team Pros Lester Edoc, Marc Rivera, and William Ysmael. Ysmael and Rivera are running red hot. Rivera recently won an event at WPT Cambodia and Ysmael clinched the PPT Pre-Event.

PPT 2024 – Chip Counts

Among the players you can expect to see returning are defending champion Jharome Pena, who already cashed at a side event, RVS Cup 2023 champion Edilberto Gopez Jr, and WPT Prime Cambodia champion David Erquiaga.

Up next at PPT 2024 is Day 1C and Day 1D (Turbo) both taking place on Friday, February 2 starting at 1pm and 7pm. If you miss that window, the last two flights are on Saturday, February 3, Day 1E is at 1pm and Day 1F (Turbo) is at 7pm.

The PPT is a deep structured tournament with a 25,000 starting stack, equivalent to 250 times the opening blinds. With big turnouts the past two days, we suggest for players to get to the Metro early to avoid waiting in long registration lines.

A new element has also been added, the 30 second Shot Clock will be introduced at the Final Table. Finalists will be given five time-banks of 30 seconds each.
