RVS CUP Day 1B draws 148 entries; 18 players advance led by Zhiqiang Liu; Rey Anthony Bayag wins Power Button

Another starting day in the books at the RVS CUP Philippine Poker Championship with 148 getting on the felt for a shot at the juicy ₱10,000,000 guarantee.  Like opening day, a long list of noteworthy players were scattered around the room that included past RVS CUP champions Lester Edoc, Richard Marquez, and Christopher Chua.

Nine hours in, Day 1B ended with local pro John Niko Costiniano booting Marvin Cerbito on the bubble to bag up a hefty 432,000 stack.  This was good enough to earn Costiniano second in chips. Up top was China’s Zhiqiang Liu who closed the day with 440,000. Liu is now frontrunner in the overall Day 2 qualifiers list.

The RVS CUP PPC is the Metro Card Club’s most prestigious annual event. It is also the most coveted homegrown title. This year’s race will be very exciting with the pot at eight digits. and the champion certain to bank the richest first prize in RVS Cup history.

DAY 2 – CHIP COUNTS

There are still three more chances to try to qualify. Up next is Day 1C which takes place on Friday, November 17 at 2pm. This is followed by Day 1D and Day 1E (Turbo) on Saturday, November 18 at 2pm and 7pm.

Looking back, the RVS CUP has crowned both established poker pros and rising stars, transforming players from relative obscurity into poker notoriety. Among the past winners are Lester Edoc, Richard Marquez, Anacleto Quijano, Marco Almerez, Jeffrey Calma, and Christopher Chua.

Last year, hot running local Vamerdino Magsakay  topped the 766 entry field for a ₱1.6 Million payout deal. To date, this is the largest prize money collected by any RVS CUP champion. Without a doubt, that figure will be exceeded with this year’s prize pool at a minimum ₱10 Million.

REY ANTHONY BAYAG wins Power Button

Rey Anthony Bayag took down the Power Button for his first RVS Cup side event trophy. Bayag outlasted the 114 entry field and pocketed a cool ₱105,000 for his triumph.
