14 Apr Record Metro Summer Event amasses ₱ 9.12M (~$161.4K) prize pool; 127 advance to Day 2
The 2024 Metro Summer Event smashed it with the five Day 1 flights bringing in a combined 912 entries for a new record prize pool of PH₱ 9,120,000 (~USD 161,420)! The largest turnout was seen at Day 1D, the last regular entry flight, with a roaring 291 pulling up seats. China’s Qi Xia topped the counts with 509,500 in chips, placing him second in the overall Day 2 lineup. The evening turbo Day 1E was just as impressive, drawing the second largest crowd of 195 entries. Filipino Ronald Acosta bagged the biggest with 451,000 placing him 6th in the overall Day 2 lineup.

The final two flights was relief for numerous decorated locals that found a bag to reach the money round. Among the qualifiers were Florencio Campomanes, Jharome Pena, Hernan Jaybee Villa, Maxwell Rosete, Richard Marquez, Kyle Magbanua, Rommel Angeles, and defending champion Moses Saquing. Saquing was the only past MSE champion that advanced to the next round. Also making it through was Philippine circuit regular, Malaysian player William Teoh.
The next stage kicks off at 1pm. The agenda is to play down to the final two tables or a total of 16 levels. Blinds now increase at a gradual 40 minute pace giving players more mobility.
METRO TOURNEY MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Introducing the Metro Tourney Most Valuable Player award by the Metro Card Club! Beginning on January 2, 2024, Metro Card Club Members started accumulating points towards the Metro Tourney Most Valuable Player Leaderboard. Points could be earned through various tournaments and could be accrued daily. The deadline to earn points is December 16, 2024. By the cutoff, the player at the top of the leaderboard will receive an abundance of prizes including PH₱ 100,000, 4D/3N stay at The District Boracay, commemorative trophy, and a 1-year contract as a Metro Team Pro.
