18 Aug Florendo Sario tops Batang Metro Poker Challenge Day 1B; Jester Intia, Marvin Cerbito win side events
Another day at the races with 116 runners turning up for Day 1B of the Batang Metro Poker Challenge! A homegrown event created by the country’s leading poker room, Metro Card Club, this edition guarantees a large PHP 5,000,000 (~USD 87,785) which is an ample P2M more than previous.
Among the players that tested their luck at the second flight were notables John Tech, Niroshan Loganathan, and Joven Huerto, all three surviving to reach the ITM round. Only 14 players advanced led by Florendo Sario with an impressive 479,000 in chips.
A total of 39 players have advanced to the money round / Day 2. Day 1A chip leader Darrell Austria still holds command with Sario at his heels. A brief background on the BMPC, it is one the younger events in the Metro calendar. Literally defined as “Child of Metro”, the title is of special significance. Through the years, the Metro has produced world class players that have gone on to inspire other locals.
Since its inception, the BMPC has crowned two winners, USA’s John Francis King in 2019 for PHP 540,863 and Lester Edoc (pictured above) in 2022 for PHP 1,124,920. The next champion could be YOU!
