17 Aug Darrell Austria tops Batang Metro Poker Challenge Day 1A; Benjamin Mangaliman wins Pre-Event
Day 1A of the Batang Metro Poker Challenge is in the books with a roaring 209 lighting up the Metro Card Club. Among the attendees were homegrown talent Mike Takayama and rising pro William Ysmael, however both missed the mark. The day ended with 25 players reaching the money round. Moses Saquing and Marc Rivera bagged big stacks while Darrell Austria topped the counts with an impressive 609,000 in chips. Coming Day 1B, Austria will be the player to measure up to.

The survivors have several days off before returning to action for Day 2. Four starting days are up next with Day 1B on deck on Thursday, August 17 at 3pm. A brief background on the BMPC, it is one the younger events in the Metro calendar. Literally defined as “Child of Metro”, the title is of special significance. Through the years, the Metro has produced world class players that have gone on to inspire other locals.
Since its inception, the BMPC has crowned two winners, USA’s John Francis King in 2019 for PHP 540,863 and Lester Edoc (pictured above) in 2022 for PHP 1,124,920. The next champion could be YOU!
Over at the side games, the Pre-Event kicked off the festival running from August 14 to 15, 2023. With 198 turning up at PHP 3,500 each, the 500K guarantee was breached for a larger PHP 614,600 (~USD 19,200) prize pool. Local player Benjamin Mangaliman shipped it for a payout of PHP 153,000.
