Lester Edoc wins the record breaking Batang Metro for Php 1,124,920!

It’s all over! Just under 8 hours of final day play, Filipino pro Lester Edoc shipped the Batang Metro title and the Php 1,124,920 first prize. Edoc has been long overdue for a major win at the Metro. He entered the final table as overwhelming chip leader and never stumbled, eliminating five players in his path.

8:50pm: JR Villanueva bows out in 2nd place for Php 588,000
Level 31: 40K-80K ante 10K

Lester Edoc raised to 200k, JR Villanueva three-bet jammed, Edoc with the fast call. When the cards were turned over, Villanueva was way behind with {ks}{8c} against Edoc’s {as}{kd}. With the board running {2c}{10d}{jh}{3s}{10s}, Villanueva bowed out in 2nd place for a very healthy Php 588,000 payout. He also won a seat worth Php 11,000 to the upcoming RVS Cup Main Event.


8:38pm: JR Villanueva doubles up

On the third heads up hand, Lester Edoc shoved with {7h}{3h}, JR Villanueva snap-called with {4d}{4c}, no hits on the board for Edoc to pay 777K. Villanueva goes over 1.6M (20 BB).


8:20pm: Heads up between Lester Edoc and JR Villanueva

After seven+ hours of play, we are now at heads up here at Batang Metro! Lester Edoc has held command since the start of the final table will bring in an overwhelming 9,699,000 (121 BB), Villanueva will attempt to break the leader with 777,000 (9 BB). Up for grabs is the BM trophy and the Php 1,124,920 first prize. For runner up, a commendable Php 588,000 payout.


8:15pm: John Albert Calamiong eliminated in 3rd place for Php 332,000
Level 31: 40K-80K ante 10K

John Albert Calamiong raised to 160k, massive stacked Lester Edoc three-bet pushed, Calamiong thought for several seconds then went ahead and risked his tournament life.

When the flop landed {7s}{7h}{ks}, Edoc jumped way ahead with trips, Calamiong hit two pair. The turn {3s} and river {3d} improved Edoc to a full house. Calamiong was eliminated in 3rd place for Php 332,000. He also won a seat worth Php 11,000 to the RVS Cup Main Event.


7:55pm: Pranz Sevilleno eliminated in 4th place for Php 194,000
Level 30: 35K-70K ante 10K

Pranz Sevilleno looked down at {qd}{qh} and three-bet shoved initial raiser Lester Edoc who called with {kh}{4c}. Though the ladies seemed way ahead, when the flop dropped {ks}{jd}{4d}, Edoc overtook with two pair, and with the turn {4s}, he further improved to a full house. With only a queen to keep Sevilleno in the game, the river {10d} ended Sevilleno’s run in 4th place. Sevilleno earned Php 194,000 + a seat worth Php 11,000 to the upcoming RVS Cup Main Event.


7:45pm: JR Villanueva doubles up through the leader

Fro utg, Lester Edoc raised to 200K, big blind JR Villanueva jammed his 436K stack, Edoc called.

7:38pm: Angel Kabigting dries out in 5th place for Php 120,000
Level 30: 35K-70K ante 10K

From utg, John Albert Calamiong jammed, big blind Angel Kabigting joined for his last 2 BB. Calamiong with {ad}{qs}, Kabigting {9c}{4c}, both his the flop {6h}{as}{9d} but with the turn {5c} and river {qd}, it was the end for Kabigting in 5th place. He earned Php 120,000  for his efforts + a seat worth Php 11,000 to the RVS Cup Main Event. Calamiong chipped up to 1.2M.

7:15pm: Angel Kabigting turns the straight to stay alive

Down to his last 3 BB, Angel Kabigting risked it with {as}{6c}, massive chip leader Lester Edoc gave him a sweat with a dominating {jc}{jd}. When the board ran {3c}{5c}{7h}{4d}{js}, both improved with Kabigting’s straight beating Edoc’s set. Kabigting doubled up to 310k.


7:00pm: Chip count update; Lester Edoc way ahead

It will be very hard to catch Lester Edoc who sits with a monstrous 6.5M which is well over half the chips in play. Here’s an estimated chip count of the final five:

6:20pm: Jason Tan Jia Zhen eliminated in 6th place for Php 82,000
Level 28: 25K-50K ante 50K

The lone foreigner at the table, Jason Tan Jia Zhen from Malaysia, has just departed from the race. Prior to his bust, Zhen scored a couple of sizable pots to rise from 10 BB to over 25 BB. However, one costly loss to chip leader Lester Edoc sent his stack plunging to 7 BB and finally risked it all with {as}{5s}. He was called by both John Albert Calamiong and Edoc. The callers checked down the board {2c}{10h}{2h}{5h}{qd}. Like Zhen, Calamiong’s {ac}{9s} missed the board, Edoc with {qc}{3c} paired up to win it. Zhen finishes 6th for Php 82,000 + a seat worth Php 11,000 to the RVS Cup Main Event.


5:40: Zeus Segismundo falls in 7th place for Php 60,000
Level 27: 20K-40K ante 5K

On the sixth hand of the featured table,  was all in on a flop {5s}{9d}{6c} holding {9h}{8s} top pair but it wasn’t good enough against John Albert Calamiong’s {kc}{kd} overpair. The turn {qc} and river {6s} kept command the same to eliminated Segismundo in 7th place. He earned Php 60,000 + a seat worth Php 11,000 to the RVS Cup Main Event. Calamiong climbed to around 1.8M+.


5:32pm: Jason Zhen spikes it to survive
Level 27: 20K-40K ante 5K

Immediately after Calunsod’s fall, Jason Zhen was all in with {ad}{10d} and was in a race against Lester Edoc’s {3c}{3d}. The board ran {8d}{4c}{5s}{10s}{kc} for a higher pair spiked on the turn by Zhen. He doubled up to 940k.


5:30pm: Michael Calunsod dusted in 8th place for Php 54,000
Level 27: 20K-40K ante 5K

Big hands tabled sends Michael Calunsod out in just the third hand of the final table. Action opened with button Calunsod raising to 90k, called by both blinds, sb Lester Edoc and bb Pranz Sevilleno. At the flop {10c}{10d}{ks}, action checked to Calunsod who c-bet 150k, Edoc called, Sevilleno folded. On the turn {8d}, Edoc led for 200k, Calunsod raised to 600k, Edoc three-bet to 1M, Calunsod jammed and no flinch by Edoc with a call.

The river {3d} sealed the win for Edoc and Calunsod an 8th place finish for Php 54,000 + a seat worth Php 11,000 to the RVS Cup Main Event. With that scoop, Edoc zoomed to over 5.3M.

4:33pm: Bernie Angeles eliminated in 9th place for Php 48,000
Level 30: 35K-70K-70K (ante BB)

Bernie Angeles will not be joining the feature table having just lost all his chips to Michael Calunsod. It was all in preflop with Angeles holding {as}{3h} and Calunsod ahead with {4d}{4s}. The board came {qh}{9d}{8c}{ks}{7d}. Angeles earned Php 48,000 for his deep run.


4:26pm: Angel Kabigting turns it to survive against Calunsod
Level 30: 35K-70K-70K (ante BB)

On a flop {kh}{7c}{6c}, Angel Kabigting had all his chips out front with {kc}{js} top pair. He faced Michael Calunsod for his tournament life who showed {7h}{6h} two pair. The turn {kd} was exactly what Kabigting needed to overtake and double up. The river was {7s}. Kabigting chipped up to 1.23M, Calunsod dropped to 1M.


4:09pm: John Albert Calamiong banks it off Lester Edoc
Level 29: 30K-60K-60K (ante BB)

Chip leader Lester Edoc is currently the ATM machine at the final table with two players earning a double up. The first player was short stacked Pranz Sevilleno with {ad}{2c} holding against {kh}{jc}. The next loss was a larger payout to John Albert Calamiong with {ah}{js} behind {ad}{qc}. Edoc dropped to 2.7M but is still holds high command, Calamiong crossed seven digits raking in 1.5M.


3:49pm: David Erquiaga falls in 10th place for Php 42,000
Level 29: 30K-60K-60K (ante BB)

WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event champion David Erquiaga will not be bringing home the BM trophy having just fallen in 10th place. Before his fall, he first doubled up Zeus Segismundo with {9c}{9d} outdrawn by {as}{jd} Ace on the flop. Following that hand, Erquiaga shoved with {8d}{8h}, Angel Kabigting put the champ at risk with {9c}{9s}, no bad beat arrived to end Erquiaga’s run. He earned Php 42,000. Kabigting goes over 1M in chips.

3:42: Michael Calunsod returns to health after two shoves
Level 29: 30K-60K-60K (ante BB)

After losing half his stack the Pranz Sevilleno, Michael Calunsod was down to 4.5 BB. However, in back to back winning shoves, Calunsod is back in the running with over 1.4M in chips. His first double up was through Jason Zhen with pocket Fives dominating pocket Fours. On the next clash, it was against Bernie Angeles who was ahead with 10d}{10h}, Calunsod with {ad}{ks}, the board ran dry until the King landed {9h}{3d}{4d}{7c}{kh}. Angeles dropped to 315K.


3:30pm: Round 2 between Pranz Sevilleno and Michael Calunsod
Level 29: 30K-60K-60K (ante BB)

First all in of the new level and it was nearly a three way but Jason Zhen opted to fold his pocket Nines on the big blind. From the button Mchael Calunsod shoved with {qd}{10h}, Pranz Sevilleno {as}{qs} joined with less chips, the board ran {5s}{6c}{jd}{ks}{kd} for a double up to Sevilleno to 618k. Calunsod dropped to 277k. Had Zhen called, he would have delivered a double KO.


3:08pm: Lucky river keeps Michael Calunsod in his seat
Level 28: 25K-50K-50K (ante BB)

Michael Calunsod is staging a comeback having dropped to 6 BB has now risen to 13 BB. The helpful hand was a lucky river. On a flop {4d}{2h}{8c}, Calunsod checked on the small blind, big blind Pranz Sevilleno bet 110k, utg Jason Zhen called, back to Calunsod who jammed for an additional 73k. Sevilleno decided to join the all in with 270k more for Zhen to call. Zhen tank-folded.

The turn {6d} gave Calunsod more outs, and with the river {9h} he hit one of them to survive and double up to 675k. Sevilleno down to 220k.


2:58pm: End of the road for Mike Takayama in 11th place for Php 36,000
Level 28: 25K-50K-50K (ante BB)

APC champion Mike Takayama entered the day with a decent 18 BB stack but couldn’t get much going despite after sending Ralph Nazareno out in 18th place. With his last 6 BB, he risked it with {ah}{jd}, was dominated by JR Villanueva with {as}{kd}, the board came {qh}{8h}{4s}{8s}{10h} to end Takayama’s run in 11th place. He earned Php 36,000. Villanueva climbed to 1.1M.


2:48pm: Michael Calunsod goes down and up
Level 28: 25K-50K-50K (ante BB)

Michael Calunsod once again has lost an all in clash against John Albert Calamiong with {ac}{10c} staying behind {as}{jd}. This sent Calamiong up to 950K and Calunsod down to 204K.

On the next hand, Calunsod sent it all in on the big blind and got called by Bernie Angeles. Calunsod’s {9c}{9s} survived the heat against Angeles’ {jh}{9h} with a flush scare on the turn {5h}{kc}{6s}{4h}{9d} to double up to 458k.


2:27pm: John Albert Calamiong wins two shoves against Calunsod
Level 28: 25K-50K-50K (ante BB)

John Albert Calamiong is now sitting with around 15 BB after winning two shoves against Michael Calunsod. The first bout was King-Four offsuit besting Queen-Four offsuit, then the most recent was {ah}{10c} besting {ad}{8d}. Calunsod droped to 840K, Calamiong chipped up to around 780K.


2:20pm: Czardy Rivera eliminated in 12th place for Php 36,000
Level 27: 20K-40K-40K (ante BB)

Jason Zhen claimed another head at his table with Czardy Rivera as his third takedown. The shoves were on a flop {9s}{10h}{3d}, Rivera was on a draw with {qd}{js}, Zhen ahead with {jh}{10d} pair.  The turn {4s} and river {9c} didn’t change anything to send Rivera out in 12th place for Php 36,000.


2:13pm Edgar Asehan unlucky loss in 13th place for Php 36,000
Level 27: 20K-40K-40K (ante BB)

Unlucky break for Edgar Asehan whose {qs}{qh} shove was bad beat by JR Villanueva’s {10d}{10c} to walk away in 13th place. The flop {4s}{10s}{js} gave Villanueva a set but Asehan had hope for a flush. However, the turn {7h} and {5c} river were not the outs to jump back out front. Asehan earned Php 36,000 for his deep run.


2:08pm: John Ryan Marcelo out in 14th place for Php 36,000
Level 27: 20K-40K-40K (ante BB)

Action opened with Jason Zhen bullying with his massive stack by shoving on the button with {qs}{5d}. Small blind  short stacked John Ryan Marcelo joined the shove with {as}{8s}. The board felted {10d}{kh}{4h}{jh}{5s} for a winning pair on the river to Zhen. Marcelo picked up 14th place and a pay jump to Php 36,000.


2:05pm: Eugene Co eliminated in 15h place for Php 30,000
Level 27: 20K-40K-40K (ante BB)

Lester Edoc continues to command the table and has skyrocketed to 2.8M in chips. In the process, Day 1D chip leader Eugene Co tumbled in 15th place. Co risked it all with {kc}{qd}, Edoc challenged with {9d}{9h}. The board bricked. Co earned Php 30,000 for his finish.


2:00pm: Bernie Angeles lands his second double up of the day
Level 27: 20K-40K-40K (ante BB)

Before the close of the previous level, Bernie Angeles doubled up through John Marcelo with {qc}{jd} spiking the queen to survive {ac}{10c}. Halfway into the new level, Angeles was all in again, this time with a dominating pair of Aces. John Albert Calamiong attempted to eliminate with pocket Sixes but found no such luck. Angeles doubled up to 520k, Calamiong dropped to 170k. 


1:40pm: Rick Jason Ambata falls in 16th place for Php 30,000
Level 26: 15K-30K-30K (ante bb)

Classic all in flip with Rick Jason Ambata risking his tournament life with {as}{ks}, however he had to improve against Lester Edoc’s {qc}{qd}. When the board ran {3h}{qs}{9h}{3c}{7s}, it was Edoc who further improved to a full house to oust Ambata in 16th place. Ambata earned Php 30,000 while Edoc zoomed to over 2M in chips and is now our chip leader.


1:31: Bonifacio Jun” Mondalo out in 17th place for Php 30,000
Level 26: 15K-30K-30K (ante bb)

Bonifacio “Jun” Mondalo became the next burn out here at Batang Metro with Jason Zhen cleaning him out. On a turn board {9d}{7s}{10s}{qs}, Mondalo was all in with {ac}{8d} and Zhen called it with {jh}{7h} pair. This stunned Mondalo while Zhen explained that he was also open-ended. The river {9c} secured the win for Zhen to rise to 1.170M. Mondalo exited in 17th place for Php 30,000.


1:30pm: Angel Kabigting gets paid with Queens
Level 26: 15K-30K-30K (ante bb)

Another double up with Angel Kabigting three-betting with {qc}{qd} and John Marcelo wishing him good luck with {8c}{8d}. Turns out, luck was not needed as Kabigting was ahead and stayed that way throughout the board to secure a double up to 570k.


1:25pm: Ralph Nazareno busts in 18th place for Php 30,000
Level 26: 15K-30K-30K (ante bb)

Battle of the blinds, action folded to sb Ralph Nazareno who shoved his 170k stack, big blind Mike Takayama quickly called.

The board spread out {9s}{8h}{10d}{ac}{7s} to send Nazareno out as the day’s first casualty. Nazareno earned Php 30,000 for 18th place.


1:24pm: John Marcelo survives the heat
Level 26: 15K-30K-30K (ante bb)

On a flop {2s}{kc}{10c}, Bernardo Angeles bet, John Marcelo jammed, Angeles snapped it off.

The turn {10h} and river {6h} didn’t improve Angeles to pay the double up to 560k.


1:16pm: Eugene Co tanks Lester Edcoc, rises to 1M
Level 26: 15K-30K-30K (ante bb)

First big pot of the day happened on just the second deal with Eugene Co tanking Lester Edoc before raking it in. On a raised pot preflop, the board ran {10h}{6d}{jc}. From mid position, Co c-bet 50k, button player Edoc called. On the turn {ad}, Co fired out 140k, and Edoc still called it. The river {4s} Co wasted no time counting and announced all in for 509K. Edoc could afford but that meant giving up nearly half of his stack. He showed his {6c} hole card then opted to fold. Co climbed to 1M, Edoc dipped to 1M.
