BMPC 2M GTD: Melia Wangi bags Day 1C chip lead; last starting day up next! Alexis Lim wins the NLHE Turbo

The newest poker festival in the Philippines, the Batang Metro Poker Challenge, has been all the hype these past few days with the 2M Guaranteed Main Event dragging players out of the woodwork. The event kicked off on August 21st at the Metro Card Club and is scheduled to conclude when a champion is crowned on Monday, August 26th.

Last night, saw another starting day fill the room with 149 in action. This brought the combined entries to 449 with Day 1A attracting 171 and Day 1B pulling in 129. We can confidently say that with these current numbers, the advertised guarantee will be more than eclipsed at the last starting flight – Day 1D – taking place on Saturday, August 24.

For Day 1C attendees, a special treat was in store. Metro homegrown poker pro / WSOP champion Mike Takayama joined the action with a bounty on his head. Takayama fell before reaching bagging time and the happy executioner claimed a PHP 5,000 reward.

It wasn’t just Takayama who fell in Day 1C. At the end of the 15 rounds, the 149 field downsized significantly to a very tight 25 players. Crossing into the 200k marker was Melia Wangi who packed up a solid 214,700 in chips equivalent to 14 starting stacks snagged. Wangi is now the second female player to close a heat at the top.

Finishing in second rank was Marguel Soria with 196,400, and to round out the top three was Harold Ian Acosta who has ran deep at a couple of Metro events in the past. He bagged 186,400 in chips.
