MWAM Day 2 ends with Joseph Sia leading the pack of 17 players; final race to the title up next

After eight hours of play, Day 2 of the Metro WALK TO A MILLION wrapped up with 17 players remaining. The event began June 26th with 616 total entries over the four starting days. With each entry contributing Php 3,500, the prize pool grew to Php 1,971,200 (~US$ 38,400). Only 102 advanced to today’s round and only 61 places ensured a cut. Driving his stack from 144,900 to an enormous 1,122,000 was local pro Joseph Sia. He closed the day as chip leader.

Sia is the most decorated player of the final 17. Among his long list of achievements is a victory at the Metro 3M Summer Event in April 2018. He is also a PokerLIVE Manila Super Series Main Event champion. With his commanding stack, he will be favored to win.

Another player into the million mark was Ramon Roces with 1,082,500. This placed him in second-rank. Not much is known of Roces’s live tournament accomplishments however he is certainly one to contend with considering his massive stack. Sia and Roces were the only two players to reach a million in chips.

Among the players also through were Day 1A chip leader Jimmie Javier, Day 1D chip leader Julius Santiago, and another decorated Metro champion, Mark Amparo. Javier held top rank entering Day 2. He continued to look strong with 650,500 bagged today putting him in fifth rank. Early this year, he finished 10th at the club’s Philippine Poker Tournament. He is looking to better that mark and capture his first-ever Main Event win.

For Amparo, he bagged a larger 772,000 stack placing him in fourth rank, and down the rung is Santiago with 276,000. Santiago will have his work cut out with under 15 big blinds.
