The last two starting days of the 2024 Batang Metro Poker Challenge – Day 1D and Day 1E – rocked the house on Saturday, August 17, with another 361 entries added to bring the final tally to 647. With each buy in at ₱15,000 (~$260), last year’s record prize pool of ₱8,032,570 was surpassed with a new record set of ₱8,831,550 (~$154,360).

Currently sitting on the largest stack is Day 1E chip leader Khino Visda with 565,000. Also returning is Metro Team Pro Lester Edoc, the only past champion who won this event in 2020. Edoc is in stellar condition with 338,000 in chips, placing him in 8th rank overall. Another strong contender is Vivencio Nachor who recently locked up a huge win at the APPT Manila National.

Batang Metro – Day 1D / Day 1E Review
The final two starting days both ran on Saturday, August 17, 2024 with Day 1D bringing in the largest crowd of 224 entries. Among the 32 players that found a bag, it was Marciel Cerbito (pictured above) earning the chip leader status with 362,000 in chips. Cerbito is ranked 6th entering Day 2.
It was a tough day for many noteworthy players with a long list among the fallouts. Some of those that survived the heat were Vivencio Nachor (pictured above), Mark Almusajin, Czardy Rivera, Richard Marquez for a larger stack than his Day 1A result, and Mark Amparo.
Over at Day 1E, a final 137 entered for its last attempt at qualifying to the ITM round. Finishing at the very top was Khino Visda with 565,000 in chips. This was nearly 100K more than his closes challenger Anthony Castro (Day 1A leader). With this stack, and if Visda maintains the momentum, he may well pick up his first ever live title and largest cash prize.
Other players advancing via this round were 2022 champion Lester Edoc, Junnie Pamplona, and Vamerdino Magsakay.
For those that missed the mark, the festival continues with trophies yet to be claimed at the remaining side events – Bounty and The Closer. Also there’s plenty of cash games running throughout the day.
Metro Tourney Most Valuable Player Leaderboard
At the start of the year the Metro Card Club introduced the Metro Most Valuable Player Leaderboard. Players can accumulate points via Metro Daily Tournaments and Metro Festivals such as the Batang Metro Poker Challenge. At the end of the year, the player with the most points accrued will be crowned the top Metro tournament player of 2024 and will win huge prizes – ₱100,000, 4D/3N at The District Boracay, and a 1 year contract as a Metro Team Pro.
