09 Aug Days Away From The Richest Batang Metro Poker Challenge ₱8M (~$140K) Guaranteed
The hunt for the newest Metro Card Club champion is just around the corner! Coming up in a few days is our very own homegrown Batang Metro Poker Challenge, and for this edition, the Metro has raised the stakes for a sweeter ₱8,000,000 (~$140,000) guaranteed prize pool, that’s ₱3M more than previous. So mark the dates! The marquee tournament runs August 14 to 19, 2024 with five entry flights. Buy in is ₱15,000 (~$260).
Batang Metro Poker Challenge – Structure
Players start with a 25,000 stack which is a deep 250 times the opening blinds. Except for the Day 1E Turbo flight, all Day 1 flights will see blinds increase every 30 minutes. Each flight plays down to ITM of 14% of the field. Players that advance to Day 2 and the Final Day will see blinds increase at a slower 40 minute pace.
Batang Metro Poker Challenge – Satellite
For a chance to grab a piece of the ₱8M guarantee at a bargain, players can enter one of two satellites to secure a Main Event seat. Each satellite costs just ₱3,300 (~$58), and for every five entries, one Main Event seat will be awarded. The best part? You don’t need to outlast everyone—simply accumulate a stack of 50,000 to claim your seat!
Batang Metro Poker Challenge – Winners
Through the years, the Metro has produced world class players that have gone on to inspire other locals. As a way of continuing the tradition, the Batang Metro Poker Challenge (BMPC), literally defined as “Child of Metro”, was created. To date, three players have been crowned, USA’s John Francis King (2019), Filipino pro Lester Edoc (2022), and last year, Marvin Cerbit0 (pictured above) who topped a record field of 910 entries for a payout deal of ₱1,438,589 (~$25,580).
Last year proved how popular this event has become with the prize pool soaring to ₱8,032,570 (~USD 142,840). This is currently the BMPC record to beat.
Batang Metro Poker Challenge – Pre-Event
Prior to the headliner, players can warm up at the BMPC Pre-Event which features a ₱500,000 (~$8,730) guarantee. The Pre-Event opens the BMPC games on Monday, August 12. This is a two-day event with two flights offered on opening day, each one playing down to ITM of 14% of the field. Buy in is ₱4,000 (~$70). Last year, this event surpassed the guarantee with 198 entries building a ₱601,920 (~$10,660) prize pool.
Metro Tourney Most Valuable Player Leaderboard
Since the start of the year the Metro has introduced the Metro Tournament Leaderboard. Players can accumulate points via Metro Daily Tournaments and Metro Festivals such as the upcoming Batang Metro Poker Challenge. At the end of the year, the player with the most points accrued will win huge prizes – ₱100,000, 4D/3N at The District Boracay, and a 1 year contract as a Metro Team Pro.
