16 Dec Patience Perseveres As Rene Mar David “Revo” Clinches Metro Christmas Special
Rene Mar David aka Revo is the newest Metro Card Club Main Event champion! The last half of the year has been filled with tremendous success for Revo and to cap it off, he clinched his first ever MCC title at the Metro Christmas Special earning a cool PHP 1,000,000 in addition.
In a post win interview, the champ shared,
“Masayang masaya ako, nakuha ko first Main Event ko! Patience lang, hanap ng magandang spot. Pag dumating yung baraha, kailangan mo mapabayad ng maayos atsaka ginamit ko image ko. Kailangan hindi magkamali sa read.”
When asked about the hand against Christian Relucio when he rivered top pair on a board {8d}{6c}{3h}{6h}{jd} with {ah}{js} on hand then folded to Relucio’s three-bet – which in hindsight was a good fold as Relucio had {9d}{6d} trips sixes.
“Alam ko kasi wala na siyang bluff sa river kaya ako nag value. Alam ko lamang ako kaso nung bumalik siya, sabi ko wala na siya ibabalik kundi talo ako.”
Congratulations to Revo!

Revo’s Rise to Victory
Getting to the top was no easy task for Revo. Wedged in the middle at the start of the final table, he barely moved to drop to the shortest stack by six-handed with 10 bb. Staying patient, he caught a break when his desperate {qc}{9d} shove paired the queen on board {5s}{ks}{qd}{ah}{3s} to survive against Reiner Magbutay’s {jd}{js}.
Hanging back again waiting for a good hand, it arrived and again he got fully paid by then-chip leader Lloyd Fontillas (pictured above). Both players were all in on the flop, Revo had {ks}{kh} set, Fontillas with {ad}{10c} top pair, board completed {kc}{ah}{3s}{3c}{qc}. This gave Revo the lead which he held for some time.
After the day’s entering chip leader Alvir Inocentes fell in 6th place followed by Fontillas in 5th place, Ronald Morfe (pictured above) chipped up to the lead until Revo’s set of eights earned enough chips to bump Morfe down one spot.
From this point onwards, good fortune continued to shower Revo. He caught a flush wtih {qh}{10h} on a board {8s}{8h}{ah}{2s}{6h} to earn a heavy pot against Magbutay {ac}{9c} and Morfe {jh}{jc}. Revo went on to eliminate Magbutay 4th then Morfe 3rd with a straight on the flop.
It was a quick finish with Revo ahead 10:1 at heads up against Relucio. The final hand was Revo {kc}{qd}, Relucio {ad}{10d}, board was {qc}{9c}{5s}{3d}{6d}.

This year, Revo has achieved success in the Philippines three times and hopes to add an international title as he heads to Taiwan tomorrow. When asked about his secret to success this year, he shared,
“Consistency lang ginawa ko buong 2024 kaya may bad run man ako, hindi ako nagpa apekto. Basta walang maling ginagawa, go lang ako. Positive lang palagi at disiplina sa sarili.”
