19 Aug Next Batang Metro Champion To Be Crowned; Zhiqiang Liu Leads Final 18 players
Just hours away from crowning the next Batang Metro champion! At Day 2 of the record-breaking Batang Metro Poker Challenge, 91 players out of the 647 total entries returned to hunt down a seat to the final day. By the end of play, the final 18 was determined led by Chinese player Zhiqiang Liu with a towering 2,010,000 in chips. Liu was the only player to bag up in the 2 million range.
Liu is a familiar face at the top of the charts having bagged the Day 1C chip lead. Liu is also a Metro Card Club regular however he has yet to bring home a Metro title. Could this be his time to shine? We shall see!
Attaining that goal will be tough though for Liu with a lineup of decorated players just as hungry for the juicy top prize of ₱1,530,000 (~$27,600). This mighty seven figure payout is nearly double that of the runner up payout of ₱805,000 (~$14,100). Among those returning are Moses Saquing (ranked 2nd), Richard Marquez (ranked 3rd), and the most decorated Filipino player, Mike Takayama. Others to also watch for are Mike Calunsod, Mark Almusajin, Vamerdino Magsakay, and Junnie Pamplona.
When the finalists return, they are all guaranteed a piece of the BMPC record prize pool of ₱8,831,550 (~$154,360). Minimum payout is now ₱72,000 (~$1,260). In addition to the cash prize, each one will claim a seat worth ₱22,000 to the 2024 RVS Cup. With the money secure, the initial goal is to reach the final table and be one step closer to lifting the crown.

Batang Metro Poker Challenge – Structure
The Final Day of the Batang Metro Poker Challenge gets underway at 2pm on Monday, August 19, 2024. Blinds increase every 40 minutes with Big Blind Ante format until the final table is reached where it switches to Regular Ante. The final table will be livestreamed via the Metro Card Club Facebook page and on Metro Card Club’s YouTube channel. As always, commentary will be provided by Jester Intia with Metro Team Pros as some of the featured guests.
For the railbirds, there is one side event trophy left on the mantle. This is for The Closer, which starts at 5pm with buy in of ₱5,000. There is also an abundance of cash games running alongside if you prefer.
