Final Day review

The final day featured the Main Event’s remaining eight players with Takayama holding the lead entering the final table. It took nearly three hours before the first casualty being APT champion Moe Jiggy, was seen. 7th placer Kai Shing Chong followed closely behind after deciding to go with pocket Twos against Takayama’s early open. With the Metro Team Pro’s better pair, Chong settled for a Php 500,000 finish while leaving behind his chances of a trophy.

APC 2022 Main Event Final Table

As the pressure of the blinds continued to increase, Takayama wielded his growing chip stack to dominate the final table, eliminating all but one of his seven opponents. Day 3 chip leader Clyde Troy Morales ultimately chipped down to three big blinds before going with Ace-King vs two players and received no help from the board, exiting in 6th. A postflop battle ensued shortly after with Kim Hoo Yup failing to hit his straight draw against original raiser Takayama’s pocket Tens. Local runner Ronn Ryan Mesina was then left drawing to two outs after running into RVS champion Richard Marquez’ premium pocket Kings, eventually succumbing to an impressive 4th place finish.

With three players left racing for the title. Takayama’s good run of cards in addition to his unrelenting skill set continued to shine. Shortest stacked Marquez pushed all-in preflop with Ace-high and was quickly eliminated by Takayama’s flopped Queen-high flush. Racking up all the chips, Takayama carried a 4:1 chip advantage against runner-up finisher Edgar Asehan Jr. The heads up duel lasted for only an hour as Takayama finished off his opponent, denying him the warranted Php 2.6 million pay jump.
