Final Day review
The final day of this year’s Philippine Poker Tournament (PPT) Main Event kicked off with the remaining 16 players battling for the biggest share of the prize pool initially listed at Php 600,000 + APC seat. Federick Cruz came in as the final day’s chip leader with 1,176,000 in chips, a massive 73.5 big blind stack in comparison with Reigin Leongson‘s shortest stack at 88,000 (5.5 big blinds). Eventual champion Rosete was wedged in the middle sitting on 20 BB. Four starting flights filled the schedule with 453 entries recorded throughout the week-long festival, generating a a prize pool of Php 2,082,650 (~US$ 39,760).

While 69 players made it to Day 2, 24 more eliminations were to be recorded before all the qualifiers reached the minimum payout of Php 10,000. Among those who made the money were Day 1 chip leaders Hwang Inje (31st), Angelo Mejia (18th), Hernan Jaybee Villa (12th), and Leonel Edejer (11th). Last season’s PPT champion Rasid Paitao also made another deep run in this month’s festivities, finishing in 14th place after getting rivered by fellow Filipino player John Clyde Tan.
The final table was formed as Jim Patrick Asignacion fell short to Emman Segismundo‘s pocket Tens. Prior to that, second place finisher Villanueva struggled among the shortest stacks during bubble time and found his tournament life at stake twice at hand for hand play.
With the final table formed, Segismundo led the remaining eight players on a stack of 1.4m in chips, roughly 46 BB. Among the finalists, the two short stacks of just ten big blinds – Jun Talosig and Villanueva – landed a few pay jumps as the day’s chip leader Federick Cruz lost three sizable pots in one orbit, eventually succumbing to crowned champion Rosete as the first casualty.
From there, four players finally agreed an ICM deal, leaving an additional Php 30,000 for the champion, the coveted trophy and a seat to the APC worth Php 44,000. After three hours of play, Rosete eliminated Villanueva and secured the biggest payout amounting to Php 395,048 + APC seat for his outstanding performance.
