The final day of the BMPC Tournament was a grueling one. The race to the title lasted for almost 12 hours with players slowly chipping away at each others stacks. 22 players returned to battle, John Francis King was wedged in the middle of the pack, well out of anyone’s radar while Dominic Jose Javier was the incoming chip leader.
It didn’t take long before King chipped up. After the quick fall of two players, King knocked out Marvin Cerbito in 20th place with pocket jacks over pocket twos and began to build a more threatening stack. Several hands later, another pocket jacks shipped him a huge pot to enter the chip lead zone. On the opposite end of the blow was Javier who nosedived to a short stack. Javier couldn’t recover which led to his demise in 15th place. Following his elimination was Day 1A chip leader Deepa Pradhan in 14h place. The final table was eventually reached at the fall of Jaybee Hernan Villa in 11th place.
The final table proved to be a conservative one. Stacks moved slowly as players tightened up, trying desperately to reach the number one spot. Frederick Cruz and Janette Dee got involved in plenty of pots to boost their stacks. However, Cruz’s cruising took a hit when he was outdrawn by King. Cruz held {ac}{ks}, King with {as}{qh}, a queen graced the flop and held for a double up.
After grinding it out for almost 6 hours, the final three players was determined with Janette, Cruz, and King remaining. All three players were showing signs of fatigue and offered to chop the pot by chip stack and leave an additional Php 120,000 plus the trophy for the champion. Guaranteed deal below:
Janette – Php 470,927
Frederick Cruz – Php 439,210
John Francis King – Php 420,863
After taking a critical hit to her stack, with King delivering the defeat, Janette left the tournament in 3rd place. King and Cruz faced off at heads up with King ahead 9M to 2.1M. Cruz managed to double up once however it wasn’t enough. The final hand arrived with King {ad}{6d} outdrawing Cruz’s {4c}{4s} on a board that ran {as}{9c}{6c}{10h}{kd}.
The Batang Metro Poker Challenge Tournament 2M GTD was a huge success bringing in a massive 767 total players (Php 4,500 buy-in) for a prize pool of PHP 3,068,000, 77 places were paid out. Congratulations to John Francis King for his victory! He is the newest Metro champion!
