Heads-Up Tournament Updates
*Buy-in: P5k+500
*Dates: First Elimination Round — April 20, 2008 (Sunday)
A specific time will be designated for each match (starts 3pm onwards)
*All entrants are required to register on or before April 20, 2008 @ 2pm
All succeeding rounds will all be on the championship date which is on April 26,2008 (Saturday) @ 2pm
*Structure:
The tournament has a unique, single-elimination, bracket-style format modeled after college basketball tournaments. Win a match and advance to the next round; win six matches and be crowned champion.
Players are divided into four brackets – Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, and Spades – and advance by winning a heads-up match against their randomly drawn opponent. The structure of the brackets then determines every match thereafter. The semifinals are comprised of one player from each bracket, with the winner of the Spades bracket playing the winner of the Clubs bracket, and the winner of the Hearts bracket matched up against the winner of the Diamonds bracket. A best-of-three final match then determines which of the two finalists is crowned champion.
For the first round, each player’s seat will be picked randomly. A definite schedule will be fixed for each match for the first round which will be on Sunday, April 20, 6pm onwards. Then the other matches will follow through according to the brackets given.
The succeeding matches will be on the championship day, which is on April 26, 2008

Filipino Poker Tour Won by Metro Player Kent Del Rosario
The second leg of the Pokerstars Filipino Poker Tour recently wrapped up after a 3-day tournament that once again featured the best poker players from around the country. A total of 98 players joined the P50,000 peso buy in event, making a massive 4.9 Million Peso pool, 10% of which was given to charity. A whopping P1.4 Million first prize awaited the eventual champion of the biggest local tournament to date. The winner would also get a seat to the upcoming Pokerstars Asia Pacific Poker Tour later this year, a $2,500 tournament featuring the best of Asia and the world.
The Metro Card Club came in full force, fielding over a dozen players along with its President and veteran poker player Nick Galan, Marketing VP Neil Arce (WSOP finalist), and HR director Luis Carballo (another final table veteran of local tournaments). The action started and it was intense. Day one ended with 78 players eliminated, but The Metro represented with Nick Galan, Luis Carballo, Kent del Rosario (Metro Player and previous P1M Holdem Champion), Melvin Matibag (2nd Place in the Metro Main Event 3M guaranteed), Mark Pagsuyuin (Metro Player and Winner of the ACF 5K) and Ronel Sto. Tomas (Previous FPT final table).
Day two saw Nick Galan eliminated with 17 players left. Luis Carballo landed in 12th place after a heart breaking hand with his pocket queens going against pocket eights, with the eights catching a runner-runner straight, then his A-K running into J-J to eliminate him. The Metro Players who made the final table were Melvin, Mark, and Kent. Melvin is now in the running for Pokerstars FPT player of the year for making final table an astounding 2 out of 2 times!
The final table started on the 3rd day, and Kent eliminated most of the players one by one, until it was down to heads up against Kirby Tan. Kent started with a 4-1 chip advantage, but Kirby managed to make it even stacks after several hands of intense poker action. The chips went back and forth several times until finally, Kirby decided to push with A-3 suited and Kent insta-called with A-J. Kent took down P1.4 MILLION first prize plus the beautiful FPT cup and a seat to the APPT worth $2,500! Kirby ended up with 2nd place money, which was not so bad at P880,000.
The Metro truly represented its players in the 2nd FPT championships. If you want to play against the likes of Kent and other excellent poker players, come play at the best place to play, The Metro Card Club.
The event was hosted by PAGCOR’s 3rd annual World Charity Poker Event at the Asia’s Gem gaming expo.

Sunshine Samson Wins 2nd Metro 5K Saturday!
The second Metro 5K Saturday was full again, with 4 tables of the best poker players from the local scene vying for the title of 5K Saturday Champion and the P100,000 first place prize. Players also saw the new METRO 5K SATURDAY all-weather jacket that was custom made for the champions of this tournament, and it made them all the more focused on winning the game.
As usual, there was a lot of action and excellent poker play. After almost 5 hours of poker, it was down to the final table. Players like Philippine representative to the WSOP Alan Escano, Consistent Final Table finisher Jardine Gerodias, METRO75 winner Barb Galan, Sunshine Samson, and otherwell known faces in the poker community were ready to go for the title plus the P100,000 first prize.
Eventually, it was down to heads up with Alan Escano and Lesley Jean (Sunshine) Samson. Sunshine outlasted Alan after an intense heads up battle, and got her first (but for sure it won’t be her last) title in The Metro as the 2nd METRO 5K SATURDAY champion!
